After about 4 hours of riding, we had arrived! We parked, unpacked our bikes, registered and found our dorms. Considering the almost unbearable heat, I rented a fan, Thank goodness! We had just missed lunch and were pretty hungry so Lois, Jean and myself went downtown to find something light to eat. Wendy was staying at a nearby motel. We found a very neat place along the main street. The air conditioning was a welcome change. It was there we had the funniest time deciding whether we should order one beer split 3 ways, we were on our bikes in unfamilar territory, but it was so hot and a cold draft beer would slide down so smoothly! After the very accomodating waiter managed to pour a beer for us measuring exactly even--three ways, during our giddy talking and laughing, Lois spills hers...jumpin' jeepers, it was so hot, that tasted good! Oh well, she declined ordering another. We had a good time at that restaurant. I didn't have my camera, darn!...After checking things out, making a few calls home, and a brief nap it was time for dinner. I was glad I got the meal plan at the college. Not only was the food delicious and a good variety, but it turned out the dining hall was the hub of socializing. Everyone was eating here and you made new friends pretty quickly. It helped having Lois with me who knows EVERYBODY! In the first night I met quite a few new Motor Maid friends, Women on Wheels, and some women writers who had stories published in National bike magazines, ie, American Iron, Roadbike, WomanRider, Thunderpress, etc, I was so very impressed with all this talent right here, right where I am, little ol' me! How inspiring! All these women AND men loved riding motorcycles! [Yes, there were men! Quite a few even!] I am so happy to be here!
